How it all started...
Prince of Peace Universal Tabernacle was founded by Bishop Mattie B Hubbard on July 12th, 1971. We moved on August 7th, 1971 into our sanctuary at 274 West 145th Street, New York. The Lord showered blessings upon us through our kitchen where we sold dinners to the neighborhood. We were able to pay many bills through this venue; our membership grew tremendously.
After being there for 5 1/2 years, the pastor, and trustees started to search for a building to call our own. God answered our prayers. The church building was obtained for us and on August 7th, 1977, we moved into our new home located at 555-557 West 182nd Street, New York. We were allowed one year mortgage free. We had many trials and tribulations trying to make the mortgage payments but God gave the increase and in December of 1995 we had our "Mortgage Burning Celebration".
Bishop Mattie B Hubbard was our Pastor for 33 years. Due to her health, she gave her blessing for Rev. Bettie Hampton to become the pastor of Prince of Peace Universal Tabernacle. She was already assisting her in any way possible. On April 18th, 2004, Rev. Bettie Hampton was installed as Pastor and remained until the Lord called her home. Prince of Peace Universal Tabernacle is a member of Metropolitan Spiritual Churches of Christ, Inc.
